This 2004 model 300 TDi engine Land Rover Defender safari vehicle was custom-built from a pick-up version with a HD axel to be wider, higher and longer than the standard 4x4s. The car has large front and side windows, 3 driver/passenger doors, 5 comfortable single bucket seats with seat belts, 220V charger for rechargeable batteries, 2 side hatches and back door for easy access loading, space for 2 x 40-litre fridge/freezers, a dual battery system, a 75 liter main diesel tank plus a 100 liter spare diesel tank with easy gravity flow into main tank, a 100 liter freshwater tank, a dust-free storage area, strong roof frame and checkered-plated roof with railing for equipment loading, large lockable roof storage box above driver’s cabin for tools and emergency equipment, rear dual coil-spring suspension and rear double shock absorbers, 2 spare wheels, strong bull bar with hi-lift jack, easy awning, fitted table and tops, and much more make this vehicle ideal for camping safaris in small groups or as a back-up vehicle, or as a fishing safari vehicle!
The car was mostly driven by one driver, was serviced approximately every 10,000 kilometers (service book available), and was fitted with a 300 TDi, reconditioned engine at a cost of N$30,000.00 (engine cost only) at 190,253 km. Current odometer reading: 248,860 km. The car, heavily loaded inside and on the roof, and driving in difficult terrain, still has a good fuel consumption of say 7.5 km per liter, giving it a range of approx. 1,300 kilometers.
COST: N$200,000.00 (including 15% VAT - claimable if registered). Negotiable deal.
We took the Land Rover selling value and added half of the original conversion cost plus the recent engine replacement, as per expert advice.
